Jeremy L. Lumpkin is in his sixth year as Director of Bands at Hillgrove High School. Under his leadership, the Wind Symphony was invited to perform at the 2026 Minority Band Director Association’s National National Concert and Jazz Band Invitational, 2025 University of Georgia’s JanFest and the 2025 National Concert Band Festival. The jazz orchestra has been invited to prestigious events such as the 2025 Jazz Education Network Conference, the 2023 Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic, and the 2023 Georgia Music Educators Association (GMEA) In-Service Conference. The jazz ensemble also performed at the 2023 Essentially Ellington Festival in Nashville.
Previously, Jeremy served as Director of Bands at Collins Hill High School, where the wind symphony and jazz ensemble performed at the GMEA In-Service Conference and other notable events such as JanFest, the University of Alabama’s High School Band Clinic, and the Kennesaw State University Concert Band Invitational. Earlier in his career, as Director of Bands at West High School in Knoxville, Tennessee, his concert bands consistently earned superior ratings at the Tennessee Music Educators Association (TMEA) State Festival and the East Tennessee State Band and Orchestra Concert Festival.
Jeremy consistently promotes music education by serving as a clinician and guest conductor at regional and state conventions for both jazz and classical music. He has been invited to speak to college students and share his expertise in the field. In addition, Jeremy has worked extensively in the pageantry arts, serving on staff for the 2015 WGI World Champion Rhythm X Winds, as well as with Spirit of Atlanta and the Phantom Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps.
He earned a Bachelor’s in Music Education from the University of Tennessee and a Master’s in Saxophone Performance from the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music. Jeremy’s awards include the Da Capo Association’s 2014 Young Music Educator of the Year and the West High School Teacher of the Year. In 2021, he received the Star Teacher Award and is an eight time recipient of the National Band Association’s Citation of Excellence. He is also a two time recipient of the National Band Association’s Outstand Jazz Educator Award. He is a member of the Minority Band Director National Association, Phi Beta Mu, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, and Phi Sigma Theta Honors Fraternity.
Jeremy resides in Duluth, Georgia, with his wife, Michelle, their daughter, Devyn, their son, Ellington, and their Goldendoodle, Miles. (2025)
