Dr. Jose Luis Diaz Jr. is an accomplished music educator with over 20 years of experience in curriculum building, music education, and educational administration. Currently serving as Assistant Professor of Education, Director of Bands, and Music Education Program Director at Wagner College, he is committed to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in the field of music education.

Dr. Diaz earned his Ed.D. in Educational Leadership & Learning with a concentration in Music Education from the University of St. Thomas. He also holds an M.A. in Higher Education Leadership Organization from Wagner College, an M.S. in Educational Administration from St. John’s University, and a B.S. in Music from The College of Staten Island (CUNY).

Throughout his tenure at Wagner College, Dr. Diaz has established a new Music Education PreK-12 Major, created multiple instrumental ensemble courses, and relaunched the Seahawk Athletic Band program. He has facilitated community engagement through performances and clinics, significantly expanded the instrumental student body, and led initiatives to showcase cultural diversity in music.

In addition to his role at Wagner College, Dr. Diaz serves as the Band Director at St. Joseph by-the-Sea High School and has held numerous positions at various educational institutions. Dr. Diaz’s contributions to the field are recognized through awards and publications. His work has also been showcased in film and television, with original music compositions and performances featured in productions such as “Spider-man: Far From Home” and “The Many Saints of Newark.”

Dr. Diaz is a member of several professional organizations, including the National Association for Music Educators and the New York State School Music Association.
