Dr. Kristina (Krissie) Weimer is Assistant Professor and Head of Music Education at the University of Northern Colorado, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, and advising the Collegiate NAfME chapter. Prior to UNC she was an Assistant Professor at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. She earned degrees in Music Education from West Virginia University (B.S., M.M.) and The Pennsylvania State University (Ph.D.).
Before working in higher ed, she taught public school instrumental and general music in Maryland and West Virginia, and special education in West Virginia. They are an active conference clinician and presenter on a variety of topics including sound before sight pedagogies, creativity and improvisation in beginning instrumental settings, teacher health and wellness, mindfulness, effective modeling strategies, mindfulness, and presence.
Her research focuses on music teacher mentoring and professional development, and ungrading practices. She has published in the Journal of Research in Music Education, Music Educators Journal, Visions of Research in Music Education, General Music Today, Update: Applications of Research in Music Education, Contributions to Music Education, and Journal of Music Teacher Education. She currently serves as Research Chair for the Colorado Music Educators Association (CMEA), on the Advisory Committee of the Teaching Music magazine, and on the editorial board for Update: Applications of Research in Music Education. They have also served as co-facilitator of the Music Teacher Educators ASPA in the Society for Music Teacher Educators (SMTE) and on the Editorial Board of the Music Educators Journal.
