Dr. Robert H. Woody is the Steinhart Foundation Distinguished Professor of Music (Music Education) in the Glenn Korff School of Music at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He earned a bachelor of music degree from UNL and two master’s degrees (music education and educational research) and a Ph.D. in music education from Florida State University.

At the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, he teaches undergraduate and graduate-level courses in music education and music psychology. His work with students has earned multiple honors, including awards for teaching and academic advising from UNL’s Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts, as well as other recognition from the Mortar Board National Honor Society and the Association of Students of the University of Nebraska.

Dr. Woody’s research deals primarily with the psychology of music. Among the books he has written are Psychology for Musicians: Understanding and Acquiring the Skills (2nd edition, Oxford University Press), and Music Learning and Development: A Guide to Educational Psychology for Music Teachers (Rowman & Littlefield/NAfME). His research has been published in journals such as the Journal of Research in Music EducationPsychology of Music, and the International Journal of Music Education. In 2024, he was named on the World’s Top 2% Scientists List of Stanford University and Elsevier.
