Dr. Rosetta Dingle, a professor of music education, teaches methods courses at South Carolina State University where she serves as the coordinator of music programs and university supervisor for music education candidates’ clinical experiences. Prior to that appointment, she worked in the PK-12 setting for about 16 years in various school districts of South Carolina (SC). With conducted research projects related to music integration, music aptitudes, creative music-thinking abilities, teacher retention, and music partnerships, she has presented papers and posters nationally and internationally.
Dr. Dingle is a member of the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) and the South Carolina Music Educators Association (SCMEA). She has been an active member of both associations for more than 30 years and is currently serving a two-year term as President of the Higher Education Division of SCMEA. She is also a member of the European Association for Music in Schools (EAS). For purposes of rendering quality music teaching and learning experiences, she received grant awards to improve the quality of music teaching and learning for students at the early childhood, elementary, middle, and collegiate levels.
In 2015, Dr. Dingle’s peers selected her to serve as Professor of the Year for the College of Education, Humanities, and Social Sciences (CEHSS) of SC State University. She is listed as a Who’s Who among professionals and women. The Manning, South Carolina (SC) Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (of her native county of Clarendon, SC) bestowed upon her the Billie S. Flemming Educators’ Achievement Award in 2017. The dean of CEHSS bestowed upon her the ‘hardest-working member of the college’ award during the 2020-2021academic year. As a mezzo-soprano, she occasionally presents thematic concerts and other performances comprising music of varied styles and genres.
Dr. Dingle holds a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Music Education from the University of South Carolina, Columba, SC; a Master of Music Education degree from Valdosta State University, Valdosta, GA; and a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education, choral/voice from South Carolina State University, Orangeburg, SC. She also holds level one certifications in Doreen Rao’s Choral Music Education experience methodology, Edwin Gordon’s Music Institute for Music Learning Theory, and Carl Orff’s Orff-Schulwérk methodology.
Dr. Dingle believes that all students, at all levels, learn best when they are expected to achieve based on a constructivist’s premise. Thus, it is imperative that music learners receive adequate facilities, resources and quality teaching and learning opportunities to perform and think critically, innovatively, and creatively
