Mission & History

Give a Note Foundation was founded in June 2011 by leaders of the National Association for Music Education (NAfME). For more than 100 years, NAfME has worked to ensure that all children have access to high-quality, comprehensive, sequential music education. NAfME has a network of more than 100,000 members in 52 federated state associations who connect with more than 20 million children and their families.

Give a Note Foundation was created to address the increasing threat to school music programs due to budget cuts, reduction in classroom time, and a national policy agenda that prioritizes a few “tested” subjects over those that power 21st-century skill development and ready students for creative participation in a mile-a-minute, ever-evolving workforce.

Vision

Give a Note Foundation will effectively engage business leaders in supporting music education as a powerful means of preparing creative, collaborative and productive citizens in a rapidly changing workplace.

Mission

Give a Note Foundation connects business leaders and decision makers to support music education for every child.

Strategic Focus Areas:

  • Encouraging business leaders to become actively involved in the support of music education
  • Ensuring the adequate investments in music education programs by increasing awareness among decision makers as to the benefits music education provides for students.
  • Supporting and strengthening music education programs so that every child has the opportunity to participate in a school music program.
