With the passage of ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act), NAfME continues its work to ensure music educators are prepared in the coming school year as ESSA goes into effect.

As part of National Teacher Appreciation Week, NAfME launched this week a new campaign with Scott Lang of Be Part of the Music to provide resources for upcoming ESSA implementation. The campaign is being coordinated by Thomas Stefaniak, NAfME’s Director of Membership, Constituency Engagement and Organizational Development. Along with what we have learned from campaigns we are conducting with State MEAs, NAfME is making these resources available in our new membership campaign.

NAfME Gains Media Attention

In addition, the media has taken note of NAfME’s work on ESSA and leadership on behalf of music educators has been commended in various media outlets:

From Associations Now:

“With the Every Student Succeeds Act underlining in federal law the value of music education for the first time, the National Association for Music Education is on an upswing—and to take advantage of the renewed interest in the subject, the group is boosting its educational resources for new members.”

From Education World:

“This year, the latest reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) was passed. Unlike education legislation prior to it, the ESSA for the first time recognizes music education as part of a well-rounded education. Advocates for music education have come out in droves to champion the inclusion.

While music education scored a huge victory with the passage of ESSA last December, the real work begins with implementation of the measure.  NAfME is dedicated to ensuring that music education has an integral role in every children’s education.
