NAfME Statement of Support for Disaster Response Efforts
The National Association for Music Education (NAfME) joins all Americans in conveying our deep concern for those impacted by recent and ongoing natural disasters, and our support for ongoing response and relief efforts. Hurricanes Harvey and Irma, as well as wildfires in the American West, have harmed and displaced countless people, wreaking havoc on lives and depriving thousands of basic resources.
In the weeks and months ahead, as communities come together to secure the safety and immediate needs of their residents, NAfME will work to ensure that access to education, including music, is restored for all students in disaster-ravaged areas as quickly as possible. NAfME will look for and consider new ways that we can serve teachers to help them get through this challenging time.
NAfME encourages our members, all music education advocates, and the general public, to contribute to relief efforts. Many local options for giving exist, depending on location, but a variety of recommended national options are also highlighted on the FEMA website. The Center for International Disaster Information recommends checking with a charity monitoring organization like GiveWell, Charity Navigator, Charity Watch, or the Better Business Bureau, before donating.
