NAMM Presents Music for Life Award to John Mahlmann

On May 10, NAMM: The National Association of Music Merchants presented its highest honor, the Music for Life Award, to former MENC Executive Director John Mahlmann.

near Capitol Hill in Washington, DC. Among the guests invited to honor Mahlmann were:

  • Former Secretary of Education Richard Riley
  • Sesame Street’s Bob McGrath
  • “Funky Winkerbean” cartoonist Tom Batiuk
  • “Dr. Tim” Lautzenheiser, Attitude Concepts
  • Anne L. Bryant, executive director, National School Boards Association
  • Michael A. Butera, executive director, MENC
  • Michael Blakeslee, senior deputy executive director, MENC
  • Dan Acheson, Drum Corp International
  • Gary Ingle, executive director, Music Teachers National Association
  • Sandra Ruppert, Arts Education Partnership
  • Samuel Hope, executive director, National Association of Schools of Music
  • Gerry Tirozzi, executive director, National Association of Secondary School Principals
  • Deborah Reeve, executive director, National Art Education Association

Lamond (pictured with Sesame Street’s Bob McGrath) praised Mahlmann’s accomplishments as executive director of MENC, adding that “The entire music products industry owes a great debt of gratitude to John for his patience, wisdom and leadership always with a cool head and kind way.”
