The National Association for Music Education (NAfME) will cosponsor the Oklahoma City Symposium on the History of Music Education sponsored by the NAfME History Special Research Interest Group (SRIG). The Symposium will meet from Wednesday, May 31, to Saturday, June 3, 2017, at the Renaissance Convention Center Hotel in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Leadership for the event is Phillip Hash, Calvin College, Symposium Chair; George McDow, Onsite Coordinator; Patti Tolbert, emeritus, Georgia College, Submissions Chair; Michele Gregoire, Flagler College, Publicity Chair; Jere Humphreys, Arizona State University, Advisor; William Lee, University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, Advisor; and Alan Spurgeon, University of Mississippi, Advisor.
This Symposium will include paper presentations, panel presentations, musical performances, and a special session for graduate students. Organizers welcome submissions on any topic related to the history of music education. The symposium offers a friendly and encouraging environment for experienced scholars, graduate students, and emerging researchers alike. All paper and panel submissions will be peer-reviewed prior to acceptance. The History SRIG has recently presented three successful symposia, first in Keokuk, Iowa in 2007 in honor of the founding of Music Supervisors National Conference, and then in 2011 in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and 2014 in St. Augustine, Florida.
