Paul Ryan Releases His Budget, Cuts Education Funding by $149 billion for 2015

Congressman Paul Ryan has released his version of the federal budget for 2015-2025, a plan that would seek to cut government spending by 5.1 trillion dollars and balance the budget in ten years.

The mandatory funding for Pell Grants, subsidized student loans, and the Pay As You Earn program would be cut completely, removing $140 billion in funding in the first year. Additionally, the funding for federal education programs would continue to take increasing cuts over the proposed ten year plan, beginning with a $5.87 billion and putting federal education funding below sequester levels for fiscal year 2015.
