2011 U.S. Army All-American Marching Band Takes Command of the Alamodome on Saturday

After rigorous rehearsals this week, members of the 2011 U.S. Army All-American Marching Band (USAAAMB) will take to the field at the U.S. Army All-Amerian Bowl at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. The band will perform a dress rehearsal on Friday night and the halftime show at the game on Saturday.

MENC partners with Drum Corps International, the U.S. Army, and All-American Games to present the U.S. Army All-American Marching Band. The band performs every year during the bowl game. In recognition of their musical accomplishments, the All-American Marching Musicians received an all-expenses-paid trip to San Antonio this week. Jupiter Band Instruments and Mapex Drums provide instruments for the band, while DeMoulin supplies USAAAMB uniforms.

The high school seniors rehearsed and will perform alongside other exemplary high school marching musicians this week. Band members worked with a renowned music staff to prepare their performance material. Nola Jones, director of bands at the University of Tennessee at Martin, directs the 2011 USAAAMB in San Antonio.

NBC determines what will be shown during the game, which begins at noon CST, but viewers can follow Webcasts of the dress rehearsal and the halftime show.

It’s not too early to think of the 2012 USAAAMB. Teachers can nominate students for the 2012 Band through January 17. The audition deadline is April 15. The 2012 USAAAMB audition site is open for rising 2012 high school seniors.
