Maryland Music Educators Association Launches Composition Project

The Maryland Music Educators Association is pleased to announce that it held its first call for compositions during the 2012-13 school year. In this first year, the call was open only to high school students.

Ten entries were received from students across the state. Entries included compositions for solo piano, viola duet, choir, and full orchestra (with double harp!). Composers from higher education and the music publishing industry served as judges and selected three winning compositions.

Winning compositions will be presented during a session at the annual MMEA conference in February. Winners will receive cash prizes as well as prizes from several software companies. Future plans include expanding the project to include elementary and middle school students.
