Katie Smith is a choral music educator and a doctoral student at the University of Michigan. Katie taught in Berkeley County, West Virginia, for ten years, serving in numerous roles on the WVMEA and WVACDA executive boards. Katie has served as the instructor of record at both West Virginia University and U-M for choral, voice, and general music teacher education courses. She has presented her research on culturally sustaining pedagogies, teacher education, and teacher agency at state and national conferences. Katie has been invited to provide district-wide and national professional development sessions on inclusive practices and diverse pedagogies. Katie has also studied singing, drumming, and dance in Ghana, India, and Ireland.
