Dr. Kexin Xu is Assistant Professor of Music Education at Tennessee Tech University. She received her doctoral degree in Music Education from Indiana University Jacobs School of Music with a minor in Vocology. At Tennessee Tech University, she teaches Elementary General Music Methods, Psychology of Music, Introduction to Music Education, Professional Seminar, Music Education Practicum, Music Education Workshop, and Aural Techniques. She serves as the faculty advisor for Tennessee Tech Collegiate Chapter of NAfME.
As a researcher, Kexin investigates social and cognitive psychology in music learning and teaching. Her research also focuses on voice habilitation. She has published original research in Psychology of Music, Journal of Music Teacher Education, Journal of General Music Education, and Visions of Research in Music Education. Kexin has presented original research and workshops at prominent venues at international, national, and state level such as International Society for Music Education World Conference, American Educational Research Association Conference, NAfME Music Research and Teacher Education Conference, Symposium on Music Teacher Education, Big Ten Academic Alliance Music Education Conference, Organization of American Kodály Educators National Conference, The Voice Foundation Annual Symposium, Pan American Vocology Association Conference, Mountain Lake Colloquium, and Tennessee Music Education Association Conference.
Kexin is a certified Kodály music educator, has completed 2 levels of Orff as well as additional Dalcroze Eurhythmics training. She received her Vocology certificate from the Utah Center for Vocology at the University of Utah and the National Center for Voice and Speech. Kexin earned a B.M. in Music Education from the University of Arizona and a M.M. in Vocal Performance and Pedagogy from Westminster Choir College in New Jersey.
