MUSIC TEACHER EDUCATION LITERATURE IN GENERAL
Professional literature pertaining to music teacher education in general addresses a variety of topics: the history and philosophy of music teacher education (sometimes called foundations), music teacher education curriculum and instruction, music teacher education activities, and music teacher education in the elements of music. The criteria for inclusion in this chapter, and not in subsequent chapters, is that the books, articles, and other materials be pertinent to music teacher education without regard to specialty (general, vocal, or instrumental) or level (elementary, middle, or high school) and that they do not primarily deal with the topics of field work, conducting, or graduate study.
