Virtual Learning Resources for Music Educators

Ideas from NAfME Members for Fellow Music Educators

We want you to know that we appreciate all that you are doing for your students because their well-being comes first. You have risen to meet the educational needs in this time of crisis by sharing resources, and we will be updating these resources frequently. It is important to take care of yourselves as you juggle family and work life and to remember that we are a music education nation working together to make life easier. 

During this time of unprecedented need for virtual/online instructional materials, the first consideration for us must be student safety. As educators, we are dedicated to providing safe learning environments for students in our physical classrooms every day. We must be equally dedicated to providing safe virtual/online environments as well. To that end, NAfME recommends:

    • Children under the age to 13 have verifiable parental consent before accessing any online resources
    • Students and/or families do not provide any identifying information to gain access to the resources – free or paid

NAfME cares about our students so we advocate for equitable access to instruction. As we curate materials to help members implement online learning, we recognize that effective online instruction in any subject requires:

    • Universal access to learning devices and internet services
    • Professional learning opportunities and time for educators to design online learning environments, tasks, and assessments
    • Opportunities for students to learn how to succeed with online instruction
    • An appropriate learning management system

Members of NAfME Societies and Councils have provided these resources from their own original teaching experiences, music educators in their school districts, universities, communities, peers, or other trusted sources. We thank them for their assistance and commitment to NAfME members as we all pull together to keep educating and making music.
