NAfME 2021 Virtual Hill Month

Welcome to the 2021 Virtual Hill Month!

We are thrilled that you have decided to take part in our Virtual Hill Month! While we all, unfortunately, can’t be together to travel to Capitol Hill and meet with our representatives in person, NAfME has coordinated this program to assist music educators from all across the nation to be more active music education advocates at the local, state, and federal levels during Music In Our Schools Month®. On this page, you will find all the information and documents that you need to take part in Virtual Hill Month, including orientation materials, your state captain, and various campaigns you can take part in. We hope that all NAfME state advocacy leaders will participate in Virtual Hill Month and take an active role in Hill Month 2021! If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact the Public Policy team!

Orientation Materials

Sample Email/Phone Script:

Hello, my name is __________; I’m calling from the _______ Music Educators Association –we represent __ educators and __ students and their families in the state.

My colleagues are participating in the National Association for Music Education’s Virtual Hill Month during the month or March, in celebration of Music In Our Schools Month.

We would like to share our concerns and interests regarding music education, including the need for more education funding in a COVID Relief Package, continuing support in the appropriations process, and support for the Reopen and Rebuild America’s Schools Act.

Please let us know if you would like to meet on a virtual platform or over the phone. We look forward to hearing from you and learning how we may work together with the Representative/Senator on these issues.”

Congressional State Budget Campaign: A federal campaign asking members of Congress to appropriate funding for state and local governments for education in the next COVID-19 relief package.
