Senate to Vote on King's Confirmation

UPDATE 3/14/2016: Dr. John B. King Jr. has been approved by the Senate as the next Secretary of Education.  His appointment was approved by a vote of 49-40.

The Senate will vote on Acting Education Secretary John King’s confirmation this evening at 5:30 PM (EST). If confirmed, King will drop the “acting” language from his title and serve as the Secretary of Education for the remainder of President Obama’s final year in office.

Last week, King was confirmed by the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee.  King has served as Acting Secretary of Education since Arne Duncan’s departure in December 2015.
