Update Editorial Committee and Associate Editor/Editor-Elect

Editorial Committee Members:

The Society for Research in Music Education Executive Committee (SRME EC) is seeking applicants to fill six (6) vacancies on the Update: Applications of Research in Music Education Editorial Committee.

Required Qualifications:
(a) earned doctorate in music education or a related field;
(b) SRME membership;
(c) either a record of sustained research activity, including articles published in the JRME, Update, or other refereed journals, or a record of research activity and successful music teaching or meaningful engagement with PK–12 music teachers; and
(c) a commitment to serve a full 4-year term.

Desirable Qualifications:
(a) experience guiding graduate research projects; and
(b) continuing interest and involvement in research activity through publications and/or conference presentations.

The SRME EC will also consider how a nominee contributes to a balanced distribution of expertise and representation on the editorial committee.

Responsibilities:
Provide thorough, timely written reviews of manuscripts and manuscript revisions (about 1–2 per month). Attend all Editorial Committee meetings as called by the Editor.

The term of office will begin July 1, 2026, for a period of 4 years. Retiring members of Update may not be reappointed to this body until 2 years have elapsed since the end of their terms. If an applicant is serving on any other SRME committee (SRME EC or JRME) their term on that committee must be completed by July 1, 2026, to be considered.

Associate Editor/Editor-Elect:

The Executive Committee of the Society for Research in Music Education (SRME EC) seeks applications/nominations for the position of Associate Editor/Editor-Elect for Update: Applications of Research in Music Education. This individual will serve two years (7/1/2026–6/30/2028) as Associate Editor assisting with journal operations in preparation for assuming the Editor position and serving a four-year term as Editor (7/1/2028–6/30/2032).

Qualifications:
(a) SRME membership;
(b) a record of sustained, high-quality research activity;
(c) teaching experience indicating the ability to address issues of research related to practice in music education;
(d) record of leadership in SRME; and
(e) commitment to the necessary time to carry out duties of Co-Editor, and then Editor.

Application Materials:
(a) a complete curriculum vitae;
(b) letter of interest and willingness;
(c) three letters of recommendation from colleagues active in SRME; and
(d) a letter of support from the candidate’s employer or supervising administrator regarding appropriate release time, resources, and administrative support (approximately 5 hours per week, on average) for the position.
