Artificial intelligence is rapidly transforming the landscape of music and arts education and the ways in which we work, learn, communicate, create, and interact. To help music educators navigate this evolving terrain, NAfME has released Guiding Principles, Frameworks, and Applications for AI in Music Education (published July 29, 2025). This new resource was developed by NAfME’s AI Task Force during winter and spring 2025 through a collaborative discussion, research, and writing process.

Grounded in the National Music Standards, Guiding Principles explores how AI tools can enhance creativity, support performance, and deepen student reflection. It also addresses assessment strategies, productivity tools, and the broader ethical responsibilities music educators must consider when integrating AI into their teaching. Whether you’re curious, cautious, or already experimenting with AI, this resource offers timely and practical information, ideas, and insights to help you make valuable, informed decisions about the use of AI.

We want to hear from you! At the conclusion of the publication, find a survey for NAfME members to share their insights and experiences with AI.
