2024 Call for Applications:
SRME Executive Committee

The Society for Research in Music Education seeks applications for three vacancies on the Society’s Executive Committee (EC). The term for service is six years, beginning January 1, 2025. The EC is the governing body of the Society and collaborates with and advises the leadership of NAfME on research-related matters. The EC oversees the research sessions and structures of selected NAfME conferences, two research journals (the Journal of Research in Music Education and Update: Applications of Research in Music Education), the Special Research Interest Groups (SRIGs), the NAfME-SRME Research Grants, and the Senior Researcher Award. The EC supports the work of the State Research Chairs and the research activities of the affiliated State music education associations.

Required qualifications:

1. Membership in NAfME and the Society for Research in Music Education at the time of initial application and for the entire period of service.
2. Record of sustained research activity, to include articles in the Journal of Research in Music Education, Update, and/or other refereed professional journals of comparable prominence, and presentations at NAfME conferences.
3. Commitment to serve a full term and attend all meetings of the EC (approximately 4-6 via Zoom per year and in person at the NAfME National Biennial Conference), respond to correspondence in a timely manner, and so forth.
4. Committee members can serve in no more than one SRME-affiliated leadership post at one time and must complete a full term in one post followed by two-year hiatus before serving again in the same post. If an applicant is currently serving on any other SRME committee (JRME or Update editorial committee, SRIG chair) their term on that committee must be completed by December 31, 2024, to be eligible to serve.

Desired qualifications:

1. Earned doctorate in music education.
2. Sustained involvement in research activities of NAfME at the state, divisional, and/or national level.
3. Experience in guiding student research projects gained as a faculty member at a graduate degree-granting institution.

In addition to the above qualifications, applicants will be considered for how they would contribute to a balanced distribution of expertise and representation on the EC. The selection process and formal approval by the SRME EC and NAfME will take approximately three months.
