Preparing Your Students for Auditions

Resources Available for High School Teachers

By Nora Segura-Barpal, sponsored by NAfME Corporate Member Music Inclusion Coalition

The Music Inclusion Coalition (MIC) wants to make sure that your students have access to high-quality recording equipment for their collegiate auditions.

How it works:

  • High school music directors with auditioning students who need access to recording equipment should email us or fill out the form linked below.
  • We send you a Zoom Q2N-4K—a high-quality camera/microphone combo that’s easy to use.
  • Teachers loan this device out to their auditioning students in a way that works best for their program.
  • At the end of the year, we provide a shipping label to send the microphone back to us (allowing us to cover maintenance year-to-year).

This program is provided at no cost to the students or the school.

You can join this program on our website or by sending us an email at

About MIC

We strive to make the study of music more accessible and inclusive through advocacy, technology, and support as BIPOC and LGBTQ students move from high school to the collegiate level so that they have opportunities to pursue music as a career. Music should be accessible and inclusive to all students,

“So [they] will be closer to an infinite beyond this world, so [they] will have something to cling to, so [they] will have more love, more compassion, more gentleness, more good … in short, more life. Of what value will it be to make a prosperous living unless you know how to live?”—Anonymous

  • To honor and support the communities we serve
  • To create a world where schools of music are representative of all people creating music
  • To diversify schools of music so we can begin to break down barriers of entry and diversify the Western canon. We want to create space for composers in these communities to become a more integral part of the literature musicians experience in music school.
  • To break down systemic racism.

MIC is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
