Resources Available for High School Teachers

The Music Inclusion Coalition (MIC) wants to make sure that your students have access to high-quality recording equipment for their collegiate auditions.

How it works: 

  • High school music directors with auditioning students who need access to recording equipment should email us or fill out the form linked below.
  • We send you a Zoom Q2N-4K—a high-quality camera/microphone combo that’s easy to use.
  • Teachers loan this device out to their auditioning students in a way that works best for their program.
  • At the end of the year, we provide a shipping label to send the microphone back to us (allowing us to cover maintenance year-to-year).

This program is provided at no cost to the students or the school.

Mission

We strive to make the study of music more accessible and inclusive through advocacy, technology, and support as BIPOC and LGBTQ students move from high school to the collegiate level so that they have opportunities to pursue music as a career. Music should be accessible and inclusive to all students,

Vision

  • To honor and support the communities we serve
  • To create a world where schools of music are representative of all people creating music
  • To diversify schools of music so we can begin to break down barriers of entry and diversify the Western canon. We want to create space for composers in these communities to become a more integral part of the literature musicians experience in music school.
  • To break down systemic racism.

MIC is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

 

About the author:

Nora Segura-Barpal headshotNora Segura-Barpal graduated with a Bachelor of Music in performance from the University of Colorado Boulder (CU) in 2018. As much as she loved performing, she found her place in the industry when she began taking music entrepreneurship classes during her time at CU.

She moved to NYC in the fall to pursue her Masters in Performing Arts Administration at New York University. During this time she worked at the NYC Department of Education in the Arts & Special Projects Office and Concord Theatricals. Segura-Barpal graduated from New York University (NYU) with her M.A. in May 2020. After graduating, she co-founded the Music Inclusion Coalition (MIC) in order to address inequities in collegiate music programs. In May 2021 she moved to San Francisco where she is currently Director of Individual Giving for New Conservatory Theatre Center.
